Where Can You Find Advanced Solutions for 5G, RF, & Microwave Testing? At IMS 2022, Booth #8019

The International Microwave Symposium (IMS) is in full swing this week, bringing together RF and microwave industry leaders with an array of workshops, technical presentations, and exhibits.

Booth #8019 will showcase specialized capabilities in 5G, RF and additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) signal generation, RF power measurements, and phase noise analysis from all Wireless Telecom Group divisions – Boonton, CommAgility, Holzworth, and Noisecom.

This post provides an overview of everything Wireless Telecom Group is featuring at this year's show, from interactive demonstrations to best-in-class products to technical seminars.

Specialized LTE & 5G Private Network Solutions

Hardware, software, and reference designs from CommAgility offer a high degree of customizability to support the development of specialized 5G and LTE systems.

Want to learn more about CommAgility and its unique capabilities for 5G? Read the CommAgility 5G New Radio Solutions Guide. For 4G applications, try the 4G LTE Solutions for Private Networks Capability Guide.

Paul Moakes, CommAgility CTO, will discuss 5G private networks at IMS 2022 during the MicroApp presentation, “5G Private and Non-Terrestrial Network Design,” on Wednesday, June 22 at 3:00 PM MT. IMS MicroApp presentations (booth #9110) pack in loads of useful insight for design and test solutions into a 15-minute window.

Attend the seminar to learn about 5G’s role in private networks, Release 17 features for non-terrestrial networks, and important design considerations for seamless implementation.

Custom AWGN Generation & Rapid RF Power Measurements

Communications devices, such as those for 5G, Wi-Fi, and satellite, are on the rise, which consequently push noise floors higher and higher. With RF pollution at every turn, a system’s interference tolerance must be evaluated to avoid a significant decline in performance from the lab to the field. AWGN generation is an effective, highly controllable way to test system operation within noisy environments.

Noisecom UFX7000BOffering incredible versatility, the Noisecom UFX7000B Programmable AWGN Generator produces custom AWGN signals for advanced testing needs. It offers the utmost noise control via filter banks, switches, an attenuation range of 127 dB in 0.1 dB steps, and output power up to +30 dBm.

Attendees can see the UFX7000B in action in the IMS exhibit area. During an in-booth demonstration, the UFX7000B will be used to precisely manipulate both the carrier and noise of a 5G/Wi-Fi signal. Boonton RTP5000 Series Real-time Peak Power Sensors measure the instrument's input and output at rapid speeds and connect to the PMX40 Benchtop RF Power Meter

The PMX40 combines the benchtop experience with simple touch screen operation as well as the performance of USB RF power sensors. While compatible with Boonton RTP and CPS sensor families, the RTP5000 Series utilized in the demo offers the fastest measurement rate (100,000 per second), widest video bandwidth (195 MHz), quickest rise times (3 nanoseconds), and finest time resolution (100 picoseconds) - all backed by Boonton Real-time Power ProcessingTM technology.

Fast-switching RF Signal Generation

Applications like frequency-agile radar and communications systems demand fast-switching signal generation, typically only available in budget-breaking form factors. The Boonton SGX1000 RF Signal Generator, however, can deliver this high performance at a low cost due to its proprietary blend of direct digital and direct analog synthesis.Boonton SGX1000 SeriesIMS 2022 attendees can learn the ins and outs of RF signal generation that optimizes performance and price from Bob Buxton, Product Manager at Boonton, during the MicroApp presentation, “High-performance or Low-Cost Signal Generation: Why Accept That Trade-Off?” It takes place June 23 at 3:00 PM MT at the IMS MicroApps theater (booth #9110) in the exhibit area.

The fast-switching speed (350 µs) of the SGX1000 Series will be on display for all to see in a demonstration at the Wireless Telecom Group booth. Boonton RTP4000 Series Real-time True Average Power Sensors and the advanced Boonton Power Analyzer software will capture, analyze, and display the generator's incredible switching performance. The RTP4000 Series provides true average measurements at extreme speeds from 4 kHz to 18 GHz, virtually eliminating any acquisition gaps and measurement latency.

Low Phase Noise Signal Generation & Analysis

Low phase noise signal generation and analysis is indispensable to T&M. For example, engineers can quantify the phase noise performance of a system’s local oscillators (LOs) or utilize low phase noise synthesizers for LO substitution.

At IMS 2022, Holzworth will showcase the capabilities of the HSY Series RF Synthesizer, which achieves excellent performance in terms of phase noise, channel-to-channel phase coherency and stability, spectral purity, and channel density from 10 MHz to 40 GHz. In addition, Holzworth will also demonstrate optimized, real-time phase noise analysis with the HA7062 Series Phase Noise Analyzers. The instrument delivers real-time data acquisition across the full measurement bandwidth, a reconfigurable front end, and measurable noise floor limits.

For higher frequency applications like 5G and radar, Holzworth phase noise analyzers can extend to 50 GHz via the HA7063A Downconverter.

IMS attendees can also check out the HS9000 Series Multi-channel RF Synthesizer at the Wireless Telecom booth. Providing optimal channel-to-channel stability and phase coherency, the instrument is an ideal solution for quantum computing applications. The HS9000 Series can be configured with up to 32 independent, phase coherent channels.
